Career Pathways: Academia includes panels and workshops designed to prepare graduate students for success, both in graduate school and potentially as a future faculty member! Keynote Address
Dr. Lidia Kos

The new Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies invites you to Career Pathways Week! She will be sharing about her own perspective and insight into pursuing a faculty position at a research university. This session is held in-person at the XCITE Commons (Rivera Library) and virtually (Zoom).

Dr. Lidia Kos is UCR's new Vice Provost & Dean of Graduate Studies. Born in Brazil, Kos received a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and a Ph.D. in Neurobiology from UC Berkeley. She was a Fogarty Fellow at the National Institutes of Health, where she did postdoctoral studies. Kos joins UCR from Florida International University, where she was a Professor of Biology, Associate Dean of the University Graduate School, and Associate Vice President of the Office of Research and Economic Development.

UCR Postdoc Panel

Postdoctoral positions are becoming increasingly important to stay competitive on the academic job market. This panel features UCR alumni who participated in postdoctoral fellowships. Our panelists will discuss their experiences around the search and application process, position requirements, and time management.

Interviewing for Faculty Positions

Join Dr. Annika Speer, Professor of Teaching, Theatre, Film, and Digital Production at UCR Theatre Department, in this workshop to learn tips for presenting yourself well during both in-person and virtual interviews.

Dr. Annika Speer earned her BFA in Theatre at University of Colorado Boulder. She then went on to earn her MA in Dramatic Arts and her PhD in Theatre Studies with doctoral emphasis in Feminist Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She joined UCR in 2015 and is now a Professor of Teaching, Theatre, Film, and Digital Production at UCR Theatre Department.

An Introduction to Academic Cover Letters

Join Lauren Hammond, the Coordinator of the UCR Graduate Writing Center, to learn the basics of effective academic cover letters and how you can better market your academic skills to a hiring committee. Make your cover letter stand out!

Dr. Lauren Hammond is the GWC's Coordinator. She recently received her PhD in English here at UC Riverside. Prior to that, Lauren received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature and Writing at California State University, San Marcos and her Master in Arts degree in English and Comparative Literature at San Diego State University (SDSU).
