Supporting Graduate Students' Academic and Professional Success
The Chancellor's “Making Excellence Inclusive” Diversity Certificate
Graduate Division is pleased to announce a professional development opportunity for currently enrolled UCR graduate students.
The Chancellor's "Making Excellence Inclusive" Program:
Graduate Student Diversity Certificate
Graduate student participation in this Diversity Certificate Program will consider broad issues that affect higher and postsecondary education, as well as the depth of knowledge and experience gained across a variety of learning contexts. The various experiences, backgrounds, and attributes of learners have a significant impact on their engagement with learning, perceptions of campus climate, and their educational and social outcomes. Learner differences cross dimensions that are material, corporeal, and symbolic. Together, we will explore intersectional strategies for negotiating these differences in:
- the microdynamics of pedagogy and instruction
- the agendas and representation within curriculum
- the nuances of departmental politics, and
- the organizational structures of the educational institution and its relations with the communities it serves.
The series of weekly online meetings (planned for Wednesdays 2-5pm, April 5-June 7, 2023) will prepare graduate students for a variety of careers in higher education, as well as sustain and strengthen a supportive network of graduate students at UCR interested in research, pedagogy, skills development, learning, and activism around issues of diversity and social justice.
Applications for the Spring 2023 cohort have now closed.
