GradQuant Programming for Winter 2022

By Yelda Serin |

What is the best way to statistically analyze your data? Why is code not doing what it is supposed to do? Where is that bug? If you need help with data analysis, statistical methods, computer programming, and more, come to GradQuant! GradQuant offers training to UCR graduate students and postdoctoral researchers on basic and advanced statistical methods, statistical software and computing, programming languages, data analysis, and other topics. We’re here to support you at all stages of your learning and research, throughout graduate school and postdoctoral studies.

GradQuant offers various programs. Read below and choose one or more that fit your needs.

GradQuant Consultants

All GradQuant consultations, drop-in hours, and workshops are conducted by GradQuant consultants. Our consultants are advanced graduate students specialized in different areas, ranging from basic and advanced statistics to C/C++ or Javascript programming languages. Whatever your question may be or however basic or complex it could be, our consultants are here to listen to you and work with you to have your quantitative or programming problems solved.

Visit the Our Staff page on our website and check out GradQuant consultants’ bios and areas of expertise. Make sure you schedule your consultation with the consultant specialized in the topic of your question.

Are you interested in working with us? We accept job applications every spring quarter to hire the upcoming academic year’s team members. If you are interested in joining us, keep an eye on the GradQuant newsletter and GradSuccess social media about the hiring announcement coming out in late winter/early spring. All UCR graduate students are automatically added to the newsletter email list. If you are not on the list but want to receive our newsletters, fill out the form here.

Workshops

PicturedYou want to learn something new and have questions? Come to our workshops.

GradQuant offers one to two workshops a week throughout the quarter on a wide variety of topics ranging from statistical methods, such as ANOVA, to programming languages, such as Python. Our workshops can be at both beginner and advanced levels. As a rule of thumb, introductory workshops are generally for beginner learners to help them get started on a new topic.

You may see our winter workshop calendar here, and register in WC Online. In Winter, we will be offering the following workshops:

  • Introduction to GitHub
  • ANOVA
  • Categorical Data Analysis
  • Introduction to SQL
  • Experimental Design
  • Introduction to Python
  • Multidimensional Data Analysis
  • Data Visualization in Python
  • Introduction to ImageJ
  • Data Visualization in R
  • Introduction to Bioinformatics
  • Introduction to Web APIs Using Python

Suggest a workshop topic: If you're interested in a workshop topic we are not currently offering, feel free to let us know here, and we will do our best to include the topic in our workshop schedules in upcoming quarters.

Request a workshop: If you want us to present a workshop to your class, department, or study group, you may request a workshop by filling out the form here. We will then follow up with you to schedule the workshop for your group.

Watch workshop recordings: What if you really want to attend a workshop, but you are not available at the scheduled time? Don’t worry; we have you covered. If you miss a GradQuant workshop, you may always visit our Previous Workshop Resources page for an archive of workshop slides and videos, and watch it when it works for you. Note that UCR CAS login is required to access this page.

PicturedYou have questions and can't wait for a consultation appointment? Yes, we can help with that.

If our one-on-one consultation schedule does not work for you or you have a quick question, you can get help in drop-in visits. GradQuant offers Drop-in and Hacky Hours on Zoom with no appointment needed. Visit the Drop-in Hours page and click on the Zoom link during weekly sessions to talk to the person in charge. Here are drop-in consultation sessions we will be offering in Winter 22:

Drop-in Hours are open to UCR graduate students and postdocs only. Run by GradQuant Lead Consultant Matt Arthur, they will be held every Wednesday, 12-2 pm on Zoom.

Hacky Hours are similar to Drop-in Hours, but it is a collaboration between GradQuant and UCR Library and open to the whole campus, serving undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff. Hacky Hours will be held every Monday, 10 am-12 pm on Zoom, and they are run by GradQuant Lead Consultant Matt Arthur and UCR Data Librarian Kat Koziar.
