Fall 2019  |  Finding and Winning Grants: An Introduction

Tuesday, October 29th  •  10:30-11:30 AM  •  HUB 265

Whether your postgraduate career takes you to academia, industry, or government, your success will depend to an extent on your ability to obtain resources to support your research. This presentation will share tools and resources for finding grants and other funding opportunities that support graduate students, postdocs, and independent researchers. We also will discuss how proposal writing is different from other kinds of writing, and how to prepare proposals that win.

PresenterMitch Boretz joined UCR in 1996 and since 2003 has been Technical Communication Specialist for the Bourns College of Engineering at UCR. He directs all proposal operations in BCOE, resulting in $40 million to $50 million per year in grants and contracts. In 2008, the Association of Proposal Management Professionals named him a Fellow, one of only a few from the non-profit sector. Mitch has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
