Finding Teaching Resources During the Summer

By Sarah Murray |

Unfortunately, the Teaching Assistant Development Program (TADP) does not offer programming over the summer. That doesn’t mean, however, that there are no resources available to help you with teaching during the summer. Below are some options to consider if you’re teaching for the first time or just looking to improve your teaching over the break.

A good place to start your pedagogical search is the TADP website's general resources page. There we have materials on a variety of topics including leading lab sections, building rapport, and fostering inclusive classrooms.

TADP offers a number of workshops every quarter during the academic year, and we post recordings of these workshops to an online portal that you can access through our website. On that page, you'll also find a full list of the available workshop recordings, which cover a variety of pedagogical topics such as “Troubleshooting in STEM Labs,” “Best Hybrid Teaching Practices,” and “Student Centered Teaching.” All you need is your student number and you can watch any of our workshops at any time!

Finally, if you are teaching online this summer, Teaching@UCR (formerly Keep Teaching) is a great source of information for all things related to online teaching. They also have guides to help familiarize yourself with Canvas/eLearn, UCR’s new learning management software.

P.S. If you are working as an instructor for the first time this summer, I wrote a blog post just for you.

Happy Teaching!
