Supporting Graduate Students' Academic and Professional Success
This spring break, the Graduate Writing Center (GWC) is hosting a free writing retreat for dissertating graduate students – the Spring Break Write-A-Thon!
If you have defended your prospectus, advanced to candidacy, and moved into the dissertation stage, finding the time to write for an extended period can be difficult. Graduate students have so many time constraints: TAing, trying to get published, and balancing life’s responsibilities. It can be easy to find excuses for why writing is not a good choice right now: not in the right headspace, only have half an hour, afraid of the blank page.
However, if you need time for dedicated writing and ensure that spring break is productive, join the GWC for our Dissertation Write-A-Thon! The write-in is an excellent opportunity for anyone who has been researching and needs to synthesize their work into that first (or next) dissertation chapter. The Write-a-Thon is somewhere you can get into the right headspace for writing; it is a quiet place on campus, free of distractions. Get on track with up to three days of dedicated writing time, goal setting, accountability, camaraderie, info sessions, writing support, and free food.

You can sign up for a single day, any two days, or all three days – whatever works for your schedule! This FREE program is available to any PhD candidate who has advanced to candidacy. FREE BREAKFAST and FREE LUNCH will be available every day of the Write-A-Thon. During the lunch hour, participants will engage in programs about goal setting, accountability, writing support, and more!
Dates: March 26-28, 2023
Where: Life Sciences 1425
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m each day
**The Spring Break Dissertation Write-A-Thon is free for any registered student. However, any student who registers and does not attend will be assessed a $25 fee to their student account per day missed to cover the cost of food and materials.**
