What Can Re-Orientation Do For Me?

By Dawn Loyola, EdD |

Incoming graduate student orientation has been described as a “firehose.” There is so much information coming at you at once that, at some point, you are saturated and can’t take in anything more. And much of the information is (hopefully) super important at some point, but it just doesn’t stick.

Think back to your fall orientation session; can you remember three details of what was shared that day? It will be a bit of a struggle unless you have a photographic memory.

Our solution to this problem is Graduate Student Re-Orientation on Thursday, January 25, in the Highlander Union Building, Room 302

One of the main activities is a Resource Fair featuring over 30 campus programs and offices. The Graduate Dean and Associate Deans and the different Grad Division offices will be available to answer your questions. In addition, the Health, Well-Being, and Safety departments, Campus Business Services, Transportation and Parking, International Students, the Registrar, and the Ethnic and Gender Centers will be there. And don’t forget about your friends at GradSuccess ☺. They will bring lots of information specifically for graduate students, and many are bringing swag items to share.

Besides the Campus Resource Fair (with swag), there will be lunch, a raffle for attendees (winners announced after the event), games, and activities.

Re-orientation isn’t just for first-year students. All graduate students at any point in your degree program are invited to attend. We are looking at you, doctoral candidates. So get out of your office, studio, or lab cave, get some fresh air, and grab a free lunch and a goody bag.

RSVP today here, as space is limited. We can’t wait to see you!
