Harvesting Food Across UCR

By Hana Baig and Kimberly Diaz |

This comprehensive guide highlights where on campus there is free and fresh produce!

Land Acknowledgment: a traditional practice that dates back centuries up to the present moment and recognizes Indigenous Peoples as the original stewards of the lands on which we now live. UCR resides on the land of the Cahuilla, Tongva, Luiseño, and Serrano peoples, the original caretakers. We pay our respects to them and all of their descendants. To go beyond acknowledgment, become involved with community organizations like the Cahuilla Consortium, the Tongva Taraxat Paxaavxa Conservancy, and the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians Museum.

As we approach Thanksgiving, a time to celebrate community over some delicious food, it can be difficult for us graduate students to prepare for the holiday adequately as we each juggle many obligations – such as developing expertise about an academic topic, demonstrating such expertise through various academic activities, fulfilling non-academic needs and responsibilities. We don’t really have the time for much else. With the little spare time that we do have, the last thing we may be able to do is more mental work (like figuring out the logistics of a Thanksgiving meal). If you want to make this holiday fun and memorable but are mentally exhausted, please refer to the comprehensive list below of free and fresh produce available throughout campus! Take a nice walk around UCR by yourself or with friends and enjoy the harvest!
